The search for development, combined with environmental preservation, led 3tentos to participate in a circular economy project that transforms used cooking oil into biofuel.
The project “The fat that is good for the heart” was created by Instituto Lar Bom Abrigo, an entity in Ijuí/RS that welcomes children and adolescents in risk situations. The action, which is also in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment (SMMA), aims to transform used cooking oil into financial resources to maintain the Home's activities. To collect used oil, the home relies on the collaboration of local traders and the community.
The project's history became intertwined with 3tentos in 2023, when a partnership was signed for the company to acquire this oil. Since then, the material collected has been sent to the 3tentos industry in Ijuí, where it goes through the production process and is transformed into biodiesel and glycerin.
Reverse logistic
From June 2023 until March of this year, 22.7 thousand kg of waste oil were transformed into 25.7 thousand liters of biodiesel, resulting in 87,361 kg of CO² no longer being emitted into the atmosphere.
The production of biodiesel through reverse logistics guarantees an environmentally correct destination for used cooking oil, preventing potential damage caused by inadequate disposal. It is estimated that for every 1 liter of oil discarded improperly, it can pollute up to 1 million liters of water.
How to help
Currently, more than 60 establishments make donations to Lar Bom Abrigo, making a difference in the lives of many children. The community can also donate by taking the material to the Lar's headquarters, on Rua Aristeu Pereira, nº 1295, in the Burtet neighborhood, or by contacting the number (55) 3332-6912.
Reinforcement in collection
To assist Lar Bom Abrigo volunteers in collecting oil donated by local establishments, 3tentos donated a car to the Institute. The delivery took place on Friday, 5th, at the company's Administrative unit, in Ijuí, and was attended by representatives from 3tentos, Lar and SMMA.
